Bandhej is a type of tie-dye fabric decorated by pulling apart the fabric with the nails into many tiny ties that automatically forms a figurative design. The craftsmen then pull a small area of the fabric where there is a hole print and wrap the thread tightly around the protruding fabric to form a knot or bhindi. After knotting, the fabric is thoroughly washed to remove the imprint.
Bandhej sari, also known as ” Bandhani sari”, is found especially in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The bandhani made into this expensive saree is usually very fine.
